Holidays at Roselands eBook Martha Finley

I have some serious issues with this book. I realize it was written a long time ago and maybe things were different back then, but the way Elsie's father treated his daughter for something as little as refusing to read a book to him that she thought was inappropriate to read on Sabbath seemed way over the top to me. There is considerable melodrama surrounding this and things become gradually worse with her father isolating her from the family (that didn't really care for her anyway) and taking away her Mammy, who had been with her since birth. The father leaves on an extended trip and Elsie gradually becomes very ill. Father comes back to find her on death's door, he has a change of heart and everything works out. Elsie is very forgiving and constantly tells the father what a good father he is and how well he takes care of her, after she almost died. Mayv=be that was the culture for that time and place, but the more melodramatic this got, the angrier I got. To hold this up as a book for children to read for its Christian values seems a bit far fetched to me.

THIS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THEY WAY A PERSON SHOULD FEEL ABOUT SHARING THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND THE PLAN OF SALVATION. IT ALSO SHOWS THE WAY A PERSON SHOULD HONOR THEIR PARENTS AND BE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR SALVATION.
fantastic book
weeping only lasts for a night but joy comes in the morning.
in this book, elsie almost dies. her father is not being kind to her anymore. then they reconcile, and are best buddy's.
This book was amazing. I am reading this series and I have fallen in love with Elsie. She is so sweet, and loving, and wanting to live a Godly life. I think she is a great inspiration for young girls. Martha Finley was truly inspired when she wrote these books. I hope others will enjoy these books as I did.
I can not read this book without crying. Characters are very well developed and interact with others as you would expect them to
An amazing book about a little girl who has be transformed by God and her father who thinks he is a Christian, but is not. The amazing struggle and God's solution remind me very much of true life experiences...even though this is fiction. An excellent book for young and old alike!
Martha Finley has done excellent on other books, and yet this book was slightly sad. Poor Elsie is in trouble with her father yet again and now it is just growing worse. ( It doesn't get saddening until the end...when Mr. Dinsmore truly abandons Elsie because she will not do something against her beliefs. This ends well...but it was a very slightly boring book. The others (in the Elsie series...I've read 1-12) are very good, but this one is just a boring part of Elsie's life. (Until you get to the end where her father leaves her) you'll have to read this one...but I didn't enjoy the most above all the others.
Thanks for looking at my review!
